‘British Butterflies. Figures and Descriptions of Every Native Species, with an account of butterfly development, structure, habits, localities, mode of capture, and preservation….’ Is the full title……. There are 14 colour plates of adult butterflies, and 2 in black & white of earlier stages (egg, caterpillar etc)……… CONDITION. Fair. The binding is beautiful, with the gilt cover depicting a butterfly, lily of the valley and a fern on the blue cloth (see photo); it is bright, but worn on the sides and corners , with some loss on the corners. The text and plates are bright and clean. The front endpaper is missing, and the top right corner of the subsequent page has been cut out, revealing a stamp saying ‘withdrawn’ on the next page.
